India is emerging as one of the most enthusiastic adopters of AI-powered shopping tools. According to YouGov’s India appetite for Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2025 report, more than three-quarters of urban Indian shoppers (77%) say they will use artificial intelligence to help them navigate mega sales events this year.

What is particularly striking is that trust in AI is not confined to digital-native youth. Gen X and Baby Boomers, traditionally more cautious with new technologies, are in fact leading the charge: 42% say they wish AI could handle all their holiday shopping, while 47% believe AI-selected gifts are just as meaningful as those chosen themselves. By comparison, only 40% of Gen Z and Millennials share the same confidence, suggesting that older shoppers may be the unexpected drivers of India’s AI shopping revolution.

The broader sales landscape is also shifting rapidly. Participation in Amazon Prime Day has risen to 70% this year, up from 65% in 2024, while Black Friday has seen a sharper climb from 33% to 41% in the same period. Shoppers are not only showing up in greater numbers, but they are also opening their wallets wider: half of all respondents say they expect to spend more during mega sales this year, compared to just 9% who anticipate spending less.

The events are also shaping consumer behavior in deeper ways. Nearly six in ten Black Friday and Cyber Monday shoppers (59%) admit they hold off on essential purchases in the hope of securing better deals during these events, while two in five (40%) say they do the majority of their holiday shopping during mega sales.

Despite the enthusiasm, a minority of consumers remain cautious. 14% say they are less interested in mega sales than they were two to three years ago, citing misleading discounts (51%) and concerns about poor product quality (40%) as the main reasons. Still, with 56% reporting heightened interest compared to previous years. With AI increasingly seen as a trusted guide, the overall trajectory points toward greater reliance on mega sales as a cornerstone of India’s retail calendar.

Methodology

The findings are based on a YouGov survey conducted between August 8 and August 18, 2025, with over 1,008 urban Indian respondents. Throughout the report, each generation is defined as: Gen Z (1997-2007), Millennials (1981-1996), Gen X (1965-1980) and Baby Boomers+ (Before 1964). Black Friday Cyber Monday shoppers are defined as those who answered with “Somewhat likely”& “Very likely” to the question: “How likely are you to make purchases during Black Friday or Cyber Monday?”
