The poll offers Americans a list of 15 issues and asks which is the most important for them. 45% pick the major economic issues of inflation, jobs, and the economy — 33% inflation/prices and 12% jobs and the economy. Separately, we ask Americans to say in their own words what they think is the most important problem facing the U.S. today, and with this prompt fewer name inflation, jobs, or the economy. With the help of an AI tool to analyze responses, we find that about 35% of Americans give an answer about inflation or the economy; the next most common answers are about presidential leadership (14%) and about political polarization (9%).
