With voting underway for the Quebec general election on October 5th, 2026, new YouGov polling has explored what the key issues are in the province.

Asked to pick up to three top issues, Quebecers are most likely to name cost of living and inflation (58%) as one of the main issues by a significant margin. This far outpaces jobs and the economy, which only 17% of Quebecers name as a top issue. Instead, healthcare and housing are also commonly cited, by 43% and 34% of Quebecers respectively.

While Donald Trump remains a fixture in Canadian news, U.S.-Canada relations are less prominent of an issue at a provincial level: 21% of Quebecers name it as a top issue for the province.

Only minorities of Quebecers name French and English language issues (7%) and Quebec independence (4%) as the most important issues.

Across the political parties, 2025 Liberal, Conservative, and Bloc Québécois federal election voters cite cost of living and inflation at similar ratios (56-64%). On the issue of Quebec independence, only 10% of Bloc Québécois voters say this is one of the top issues facing the province currently.

Methodology: This article includes results from an online survey conducted September 14 - October 1, 2026 among 1,276 adults in Quebec. Respondents were selected from YouGov’s opt-in panel to be representative of adult Quebecers. The sample was weighted according to gender, age, education, region, 2025 federal election vote, and primary language. Demographic weighting targets come from the 2021 Canadian Census. The margin of error for the overall sample is approximately 3.5%.
