Donald Trump's net job approval has dropped to a record low in this week's Economist / YouGov Poll, amid eroding support from Trump's core supporters.

Only 35% of Americans strongly or somewhat approve of how Trump is handling his job as president, while 58% disapprove, for a net job approval of -23. That's the lowest net approval Trump has received in any Economist / YouGov Poll over Trump's first or second terms as president.

In only one prior Economist / YouGov Poll have fewer than 35% of Americans approved of Trump's job handling (34% in November 2017), and in only one prior poll have more than 58% disapproved (59% in February 2026).

At this point in Trump's first term, his net approval was -11. At this point in Joe Biden's term, his net approval was -6.

The decline in Trump's job approval in part reflects defections from his own supporters. Three weeks ago, 84% of people who voted for Trump in 2024 approved of his job handling, and 12% disapproved (+72 net job approval). This week, Trump's job approval among 2024 Trump voters is 76% approve vs. 19% disapprove (+57). Overall, the share of Trump's 2024 voters who approve of his job handling has fallen from 93% at the start of his term and 84% three weeks ago to 76% now. His decline in approval among nonvoters is similar: to 25% from 43% at the start of the term.

Trump has also hit a record low in job approval for his second term among Americans 65 and older. Among this group, 40% approve of Trump's job handling and 57% disapprove — a -17 net job approval. That's down from -1 net job approval at the start of Trump's second term.
