With the US-Iran conflict now almost entering its second month, and with no end in sight, how have the British public noticed the effects on these shores?
As of the time of fieldwork (22-23 March), a third of Britons (35%) told us that they had personally been impacted by the conflict.
When asked an open question on what form this impact has taken, the vast majority of this group (69%) cited increased petrol/diesel prices.
Another 11% mentioned higher energy prices, with many specifically referencing the cost of heating oil – a common requirement in some rural parts of the country that are not connected to the gas grid.
Additionally, 4% cited higher food prices, while 12% brought up unspecified ‘rising costs’.
In terms of other financial impacts that this group felt, one in eleven (9%) noticed a hit to their investments, and 3% say it has affected interest rates for their mortgages.
Separately, 4% brought up disruption to their holiday or travel plans, and another 4% are concerned due to friends and family living in the conflict region.
