What are the top issues facing the United Kingdom?

Immigration and the economy jointly top the list of issues Britons consider most important facing the country, with 35% naming each as a major issue. Health ranks third, with 24% of Britons identifying it as one of the biggest issues facing the UK.

How have views on the top issues facing the United Kingdom changed?

Concern about immigration has fallen across the past three waves, from a recent high of 47% in September to 40% in December and 35% now. Even so, it remains one of the two issues Britons are most likely to mention. Concern about terrorism has risen from 7% to 16% since the December wave, its highest level since June. Concern about energy supplies has also increased sharply, from 3% to 11%, reaching its highest level since June 2023. These increases follow the outbreak of conflict between Iran, Israel and the United States in February.

The economy is the issue most commonly named by French people as facing their country, with 47% naming it as a major issue. Immigration ranks second at 27%, while health is in third place at 22%.

How have views on the top issues facing France changed?

There has been little movement in France over recent waves. The economy has remained the country's biggest issue throughout the past year, ranging between 39% and 49% since March and standing at 47% now. Concern about immigration has fallen from a recent high of 33% in September to 27% in the latest wave.

The economy is the issue Germans are most likely to identify as facing their country, with 44% naming it as a major issue. Immigration ranks second at 26%, while the rich-poor gap is third on 19%.

How have views on the top issues facing Germany changed?

The economy remains Germany’s top issue for the third wave in a row, rising from 37% in September to 41% in December and 44% now. Concern about immigration has fallen from 36% in June to 26% now. Concern about energy supplies has risen too, increasing from 9% in the December wave to 16% now.

The economy is the issue most commonly identified by Italians as facing their country, with 43% naming it as a major issue. Health ranks second at 31%, while immigration is in third place at 19%.

How have views on the top issues facing Italy changed?

Health remains Italy’s biggest issue, although it has fallen from 48% in the December wave to 43% now. Concern about the economy has risen from 26% in June to 31% now, while concern about crime has fallen from 25% in December to 21%. Concern about terrorism has risen from 3% to 12% since December. As elsewhere in Europe, concern about energy supplies has also increased, rising from 3% to 9%.

What are the top issues facing Spain?

Housing is the issue most commonly identified by Spaniards as facing their country, with 49% naming it as a major issue. Health and the economy are jointly second, with 25% mentioning each.

How have views on the top issues facing Spain changed?

Housing has remained comfortably Spain's biggest issue since December 2024, standing between 44% and 50% in every wave since then and reaching 49% now. Concern about immigration has fallen across the past three waves, from 35% in September to 32% in December and 27% now. Spain has also seen a rise in concern about energy supplies since the December wave, while concern about infrastructure has increased to its highest level in several years.

What are the top issues facing Denmark?

Health is the issue most commonly identified by Danes as facing their country, with 27% naming it as a major issue. The economy ranks second at 23%, while energy supplies are in third place at 17%.

How have views on the top issues facing Denmark changed?

Concern about health has fallen from 41% in March last year to 27% now, although it remains the issue Danes are most likely to mention. Concern about the economy has also eased, falling from 29% to 23% over the same period. A similar increase in concern about energy supplies can be seen in Denmark, where it has risen from 9% in the December wave to 17% now, its highest level since September.
