YouGov’s AI-powered news tracker series shows which single story Britons heard the most about

Our news tracker asks the public to tell us, in their own words, which one news story they had heard most about in recent days. The results are then categorised by our AI topic model into the categories below.

Over the past week, the news stories most noticed by the public include the FlyDubai flight cockpit attack, which formed the most memorable news story for 9% of Britons. Our poll, 2conducted on 4-5th October 2026, also finds that the public's attention was grabbed by the headlines surrounding the RAF Fairford incident (top story for 8%), Andy Burnham's proposals around social care and the triple lock (7%), and the increase in fuel and energy prices (7%).
