The fourth part of the YouGov Big Survey on Family shows how many British pet owners consider their pets to be full members of the family, and how attitudes differ between dog owners, men and women.
Can pets be members of the family?
Half (52%) of Britons with pets say they consider them to be family members to the same degree as human members of their family. A further 39% say that while their pets are family, it is not to the degree as human members.
Only 7% say they don’t consider their pets to be family members.
Dog owners in particular are likely to say they consider their pets to be human-level members of the family, with 59% saying so.
Female pet owners are more likely than their male counterparts to say they consider pets to be on the same level as humans in their family, at 57% vs 46%.
