In this week’s Economist/YouGov poll:

Plus polling on Todd Blanche, the 2026 midterm elections, wildfires, climate change, the economy, and Lupita Nyong'o.

  • 21% of Americans say Todd Blanche should be confirmed as attorney general, while 33% say he shouldn't be and 46% aren't sure
  • 27% of Americans say they're very confident that votes will be counted accurately in the November midterm elections, including 45% of Democrats and 16% of Republicans
  • 41% of Americans said the air where they live is currently being affected by wildfires, during the poll's field dates of July 17 - 20
  • 64% of Americans say the world's climate is changing as a result of human activity, while 18% say it's changing but not because of human activity. Only 5% say the climate is not changing
  • 47% of Americans say the U.S. economy is in a poor state, the highest level found by any Economist / YouGov Poll since 2023. 28% say the economy is fair, 18% say it's good, and only 3% say it's excellent

Methodology: The poll was conducted among 1,602 U.S. adult citizens. Respondents were selected from YouGov’s opt-in panel to be representative of U.S. adult citizens. A random sample (stratified by gender, age, race, education, geographic region, and voter registration) was selected from the 2019 American Community Survey. The sample was weighted according to gender, age, race, education, geographic region, 2024 presidential vote, 2020 election turnout and presidential vote, baseline party identification, and current voter registration status. 2024 presidential vote, at time of weighting, was estimated to be 48% Harris and 50% Trump. Demographic weighting targets come from the 2019 American Community Survey. Baseline party identification is the respondent’s most recent answer given around November 8, 2024, and is weighted to the estimated distribution at that time (31% Democratic, 33% Republican). The margin of error for the overall sample is approximately 3.3%.
