Majorities of Americans disapprove of Trump's job handling and several of his personal qualities

The latest Economist / YouGov Poll shows that Donald Trump remains unpopular, with 36% of Americans strongly or somewhat approving of Trump's job performance and 60% disapproving. That net job approval of -24 is near the lowest Trump has recorded in his second term, and below both the lowest net approval of Trump in his first term and the lowest of Joe Biden in his term.

Trump's net approval among men is -22, the lowest in either of his terms.

Trump receives more disapproval than approval for how he's handling several major political issues including crime, for which 41% approve and 49% disapprove — a net approval of -8. That's down from +12 at the start of Trump's second term.

Americans are also more likely than not to rate Trump's personal qualities negatively. 52% of Americans say Trump is too old to be president and 37% say he isn't. That's up from December, when just as many said Trump was and wasn't too old (45% each).

60% of Americans say Trump isn't honest and trustworthy. 58% say he doesn't have the temperament to be president. 62% say Trump doesn't care about people like them much (12%) or at all (51%).

One category Americans give Trump more credit for is forthrightness: 52% say Trump mostly says what he believes, and 34% say he says what he thinks people want to hear.

The words Americans are most likely to say do describe Trump, from a list of 13 positive and negative words, are all negative: "dangerous" (52% say this describes Trump), "corrupt" (49%), "racist" (45%), and "out-of-touch" (45%). The positive word Americans are most likely to say describes Trump is "bold" (43%). Far fewer say other positive words on the list describe Trump, including "strong" (36%), "intelligent" (32%), "effective" (30%), "honest" (24%), "steady" (18%), and "inspiring" (17%).

Democrats and Republicans generally use very different words to describe Trump. 86% of Democrats say Trump is dangerous, compared to only 12% of Republicans. 76% of Republicans and only 6% of Democrats say Trump is strong.

With Trump unpopular, his Republican Party is trailing in Americans' intended House vote, though the margin is smaller there than on approval of Trump's job handling. When choosing between unnamed Democratic and Republican candidates, registered voters prefer the Democrat by 6 points (46% to 41%).
