A row has brewed after Macklemore was dropped from Ed Sheeran’s tour after making pro-Palestinian remarks on stage, following pressure from venues, although Sheeran says the decision was made by the tour promoter rather than him.

Britons tend to think that it is unacceptable for music artists to use their platform during concerts to make political statements (49%) – although 41% think this is fine.

When it comes to the specific example of Macklemore making pro-Palestine comments and showing images of Gaza on stage, the results are largely the same, with 50% branding this unacceptable but 37% thinking it is ok.

When it comes to the decisions of venues to block Macklemore as a result of his actions, the public are divided, with 40% saying it was acceptable for them to do so but 43% disagreeing.

And when it comes to whether or not Ed Sheeran’s tour was right to drop Macklemore as an opening act, the public are again largely split, with 41% thinking they were right to do so, but 36% saying this was the wrong call.

Naturally the results are partisan, with Greens in particular taking Macklemore’s side, alongside Labour and Lib Dem voters, while Tories and Reform UK voters generally taking the opposing view.
