From car and home cover to private health insurance, Australians have no shortage of insurance brands to choose from. But which names are most likely to make it into their consideration set?

The cost of cover provides an important backdrop. In June 2026, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) reported that premiums remained very high for many consumers and were generally rising nationwide, even as the cyclone reinsurance pool moderated increases for some households facing higher cyclone risk.

YouGov BrandIndex data collected from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026 ranks the insurance brands Australian adults would consider when next in the market for a financial-services product or service.

Which insurance brands lead on consideration?

Allianz ranks first, with 16.0% of Australian adults saying they would consider the brand. RACV/RACQ/RAA/RAC/RACT follows at 15.5%, while AAMI takes third place at 14.9%. The top three are separated by just 1.1 percentage points.

Budget Direct ranks fourth at 13.0%, with NRMA Insurance fifth at 12.7%. Youi (11.0%) and Suncorp (10.8%) take sixth and seventh spot in the rankings. Medibank, Bupa and HCF are the only private health insurers in the top 10. Health cover sits in a different regulatory setting from general insurance, with premium increases approved by the Australian Government each year (an industry average of 4.41% from 1 April 2026).

For marketers and insights teams, the ranking provides a clear benchmark of the insurance brands Australians are considering. Pairing consideration with other BrandIndex measures, such as value, quality, awareness and satisfaction, can help reveal what is driving each brand’s position.
