A direct message seeking permission could be sent to users by site owners.

As per a company statement brought out by Instagram, website owners will need permission from Instagram users before embedding their posts on web page. The statement follows a development wherein Newsweek is being sued for copyright infringement.

In this case, Newsweek is being sued by a photographer whose Instagram post was embedded on the news site without relevant permission. The lawsuit is currently in the preliminary stage.

Site owners are advised to seek permission before using a photo from Instagram. As per Instagram’s terms of service, everytime a user uploads a photo, they provide the platform with a copyright license.
