Rewind’s 2020 Data Protection Report is based on a survey of owners or employees of small US-based ecommerce stores.

One in four retailers has lost critical business data, including images, inventory and customer data to assorted reasons including cyber-crime. Most of them assumed their cloud software would back up their data and never backed any of their web content.

The article states that considering small businesses lose an average of $80K annually due to cybercrimes, losing critical business data can be a cause of further drain on revenue. 52% of respondents were unsure about how long their operations remained disrupted due to recovery of data.

A minority of retailers (8%) also mentioned they could never recover their data. 91% of them pointed out the time/labour to rebuild the website post-data loss as their biggest issue.
