The 3D video chatting tech will be tested with business partners later this year, particularly in the health care and media industries.
Google recently announced the development of a next-generation video chat booth dubbed “Project Starline”, which will enable users to see the person they are conversing with, in 3D. The platform uses multiple cameras and sensors to capture a person's appearance and shape from various viewpoints.
Users can view from different angles, move around, and make eye contact. In its preview, Google’s Starline was used for person-to-person calls only and both sides had specialised tech. The platform has an entire booth, with lights, cameras, and a bench to sit on.
According to Google, “custom-built hardware and highly specialised equipment”, is used on the platform. The 3D video chatting booth is currently only available in a “few” of Google’s offices.
