High streets and shopping centres saw the highest surge in footfall in the UK during the half-term break in October, finds Springboard.
Footfall in the UK improved to -13.4% for the four weeks from October 3 to October 30, 2021, compared to -17.4% in September. With increased footfall on high streets, retail parks, and shopping malls in October, the retail sector is hopeful about a great start to Black Friday and Christmas.
Compared to 2019, footfall on streets was 15% lower on high streets, followed by shopping centres (20%) and retail parks (3.1%). The last week of October 2021, however, delivered a significant footfall boost to all destinations.
The overall average increased to -10.9% in the final week, compared -14.3% in the first three weeks. In October, footfall in central London increased to -22.2%, while footfall in regional cities reached -15.7%.
