Different age groups do not look at hotel brands in the same way. YouGov's India hotel rankings by generation compare how Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X and Baby Boomers+ respond to the overall Top 10 hotel brands.

The analysis focuses on Consideration: the percentage of consumers likely to book hotels who say they would consider purchasing from or using each brand. The results show how the same hotel brands can hold different positions with younger and older consumers.

In this article, we cover:

  • How the overall Top 10 hotel brands compare across generations
  • Which hotel brands stand out with younger consumers
  • How Gen X and Baby Boomers+ compare with younger groups
  • Methodology behind the rankings

Taj Hotels & Palaces leads across generations

Taj Hotels & Palaces ranks highest among every generation shown in the analysis. It records 19.0% Consideration among Gen Z, 25.1% among Millennials, 27.8% among Gen X and 23.4% among Baby Boomers+.

That broad strength makes Taj the clearest cross-generation leader among the overall Top 10 hotel brands. The brand’s highest score appears among Gen X, where it sits 3.0 percentage points ahead of ITC Hotels.

ITC Hotels performs strongly with older consumers

ITC Hotels ranks second overall at 20.0% and shows particular strength with older consumers. It reaches 24.8% among Gen X and 21.5% among Baby Boomers+, compared with 14.9% among Gen Z.

The pattern suggests that established Indian hospitality brands have especially strong positions with older age groups, while still remaining visible among younger consumers.

Marriott, Hyatt and Hilton are stronger with Millennials than Gen Z

Several international hotel groups perform more strongly with Millennials than with Gen Z. Marriott records 22.5% Consideration among Millennials compared with 13.0% among Gen Z, while Hilton reaches 18.1% among Millennials and 8.3% among Gen Z.

Hyatt follows a similar pattern, with 20.0% among Millennials and 11.3% among Gen Z. These differences show why one overall ranking may not be enough for brand planning: a hotel brand’s closest competitors can shift when the audience changes.
